Installs new CNC ID Grinding Machine and Roundness Tester
Pune, India, 27th March 2025 – Setco Spindles India, a part of Setco, the world’s largest independent spindle rebuilder and a leader in high-performance spindle solutions announced today a major infrastructure upgrade with the addition of a state-of-the-art CNC ID Grinding Machine from E-Tech Precisions and a high-precision Roundness Tester from Taylor Hobson. This investment marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to delivering world-class spindles and milling heads with superior accuracy, efficiency, and quality.
As a leading manufacturer of spindles, Setco understands the critical importance of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) in spindle shaft and housing manufacturing, where tolerances must be maintained within 0.002mm. The new CNC ID Grinding Machine, provides exceptional accuracy in internal diameter grinding. Equipped with a high-accuracy encoder and advanced controller, this machine allows operators precise control over grinding parameters. Initial trials have already demonstrated remarkable results, achieving circularity and cylindricity within 0.002mm.
A key highlight of this machine is its Twin Wheel Head Spindle, which enables grinding across a wide range of bore sizes without the need to change the spindle cartridge. With its multi-functional capabilities, the machine can achieve GD&T parameters such as concentricity, cylindricity, face runout, and perpendicularity with unmatched precision. The machine is equipped with the Mitsubishi M80 Graphical Controller, which minimizes human error, reduces programming complexity, and ensures consistent quality in production.
To complement this investment in precision machining, Setco has also acquired the Talyrond 385 roundness tester from Taylor Hobson, further strengthening its quality control capabilities. Measuring roundness for spindle parts is very critical as the tolerances between parts is very minimal and there is a high degree of interaction between the parts that are moving during the milling operations of the spindle. The Talyround 385 can accommodate jobs up to 900mm in length and 300mm in diameter, covering all critical components of Setco’s standard spindle range, including BT/BBT40, HSK A63, BT50, and HSK A100 among others.
These new additions complement Setco India’s existing CMM machine and align with the ongoing skill enhancement initiatives, including specialized training for Setco India technicians at Setco Taiwan.
