Renishaw has a long history of innovation and is continually developing new products and technologies across its business sectors. Renishaw’s commitment to research and development has resulted in a wide range of groundbreaking solutions, including high-precision measurement systems, motion control products, and advanced healthcare technology. We have been recognized with numerous awards for our innovative products and services, and we are continually expanding our product portfolio to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
In the 50th anniversary year, we are likely to feature some innovations in industrial metrology and precision measurement that will continue to push the boundaries of technology and benefit our customers and stakeholders.
Over the past 50 years, measurement technology has undergone a significant evolution, driven by advances in computing, electronics, and materials science.
At Renishaw, we have spent 50 years engineering change. Our company was established in 1973 by David McMurtry (now Sir David McMurtry), Executive Chairman, and John Deer, Non-Executive Deputy Chairman. Renishaw’s first product, the touch-trigger probe, was invented by Sir David to solve a specific inspection requirement for the Olympus engines used in Concorde. This innovative product led to a revolution in three-dimensional co-ordinate measurement, enabling the accurate measurement of machined components and finished assemblies.
We have witnessed the remarkable evolution of measurement technology over the past 50 years. From manual and analog systems in the early days, we have seen the emergence of digital electronics, computer-aided design and manufacturing, and advanced 3D scanning technology. These technologies have revolutionized the way we measure and analyze complex geometries and enabled us to develop more precise and efficient manufacturing processes.
In recent years, we have seen the convergence of measurement technology with other cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things. This has led to the development of intelligent measurement systems that can adapt to changing conditions and improve their accuracy over time.
We believe that this ongoing evolution of measurement technology holds tremendous potential for the future. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are proud to have played a leading role in driving innovation in measurement technology, and we are committed to continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible in this field.
For more than 50 years, Renishaw has delivered innovations that have been milestones in industrial metrology. From the original touch-trigger probe and motorised indexing head, repeatable stylus changing and modular scanning systems, Renishaw sensors for co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs) are an industry standard.
Renishaw’s 5-axis measurement product range represents the biggest step-change in measurement capability ever introduced, delivering unprecedented speed and measurement flexibility, whilst avoiding the speed versus accuracy compromises inherent in conventional techniques. Whether the REVO scanning or the PH20 touch-trigger, Renishaw’s 5-axis systems boost measurement throughput, minimise lead times and give manufacturers a more comprehensive appreciation of the quality of their products.
At Renishaw, we are committed to keeping pace with the latest trends in machine tool technology and providing our customers with cutting-edge solutions that meet their evolving needs. We have a dedicated team of engineers and researchers who are constantly exploring new technologies and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the field of manufacturing.
We collaborate closely with our customers and partners to understand their specific challenges and requirements. One of our core strengths is our expertise in precision measurement and motion control systems. This allows us to develop solutions that enable high-precision machining, 5-axis and multitasking capabilities, and flexible manufacturing processes. India is home to a rapidly growing economy with a diverse range of industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, technology, and more. The Indian government has taken several initiatives to support the growth of industry, including the ‘Make in India’ program, which aims to boost manufacturing and increase foreign investment in the country. Additionally, recent regulatory changes and improvements in infrastructure have made it easier for businesses to operate in India.
Businesses are adopting the ‘China Plus’ strategy to reduce the dependency on manufacturing in China by diversifying their production base to other countries, including India. This strategy has gained popularity in recent years. For companies operating in India, the “China plus” strategy may involve shifting some of their manufacturing operations from China to India to take advantage of the country’s favourable business climate. It may also involve sourcing raw materials and components from India to reduce reliance on Chinese suppliers.
The industrial climate in India is conducive to growth as the country has undertaken several reforms & initiatives aimed at promoting industrial growth and attracting foreign investment to support the above changes.
At Renishaw, we are very optimistic about the prospects of the measurement business and the future of our company. As the demand for precision measurement and process control solutions continues to grow across a wide range of industries, we see significant opportunities for growth and expansion in the coming years.
Our focus on innovation and technological leadership has helped us to stay at the forefront of the measurement industry, and we continue to invest heavily in research and development to drive the next generation of measurement technologies. We believe that our deep expertise in areas such as metrology, motion control, healthcare technology and additive manufacturing will continue to be in high demand in industries ranging from aerospace and automotive to healthcare and consumer electronics.
In addition to our core measurement business, we also see significant potential in new areas such as digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0, where we are well-positioned to provide advanced measurement and process control solutions that can help customers improve their production efficiency and quality.
Overall, we are very optimistic about the future of Renishaw and the measurement industry, and we look forward to continuing to drive innovation and growth in the years ahead.
