With the development of the new 4-axis machine series, GROB provides the solution for the market demand for a robust but also dynamic 4-axis horizontal machine. This series has been optimized for practically ideal static and dynamic behavior with the aid of a multi-object simulation of the complete machine from the beginning, and will perform with a high level of reliability, accuracy and dynamics in a highly competitive environment. The modular configuration also allows the machines to be completely adapted to work with existing production systems, while providing the freedom to break new ground.

With the expansion of the product range by the 4-axis machine series, GROB can meet the ever-increasing demands of all target markets in addition to the 5-axis market segment. The modular machine design and range of options allow the G440, G640 and G840 4-axis machining centers to be configured in accordance with specific customer requirements. As with the GROB 5-axis universal machining centers, the 4-axis machine series impresses with its compact design, high productivity and maximized stability. In addition to being perfectly suited for the automobile industry, it is also ideal for the Mechanical Engineering, Bus & Truck, Rail, Agricultural and Construction Machinery, and Fluid Technologies sectors. The new 4-axis machine stands out among its market competitors with its high loading weight, and high thrust and acceleration capabilities of the main axes.

Machine characteristics – over 90 years of machine tool experience

To reduce the weight of the structural components and increased stability at the same time, the 4-axis machine series has been designed with the aid of numerical methods such as topology optimization and FEM simulations. The series is designed as a moving column on a rigid machine bed with three fixator points. The rotary axis is powered by a dynamic torque motor and the linear axes by ball screw drives. For the G640 and G840 models, the workspace can be expanded to a larger height configured for the target segment, allowing the use of taller clamping units.

    Flexible-use GROB spindle sizes

In addition to the 500 mm, 630 mm and 800 mm pallet variants, the three design sizes, G440, G640 and G840, provide a comprehensive array of available spindle sizes with small and large interfaces for HSK, SK, CAT, BT and BIG-PLUS. The spindles, designed and manufactured by GROB, have impressively high quality characteristics. They excel both in the harsh environment of series production, as well as with dynamic and highly precise tasks. The portfolio for heavy motorized spindles and gear spindles is continuously increasing, underscoring our eternal search for the potential for optimization in manufacturing technologies.
