Highlight the current landscape and growth prospects of Machine Tools industry in India.

The Indian machine tool industry is growing at a steady pace and with the continuous support of the government aims to grow even further ahead. Government of India is putting dedicated efforts to expand Aerospace engineering, Manufacturing and ME&S market in India. To further this objective, they are establishing Aerospace dedicated SEZs and manufacturing parks in south India. Make-in-India initiative will further provide the thrust to overall engineering and manufacturing industry in India including Industrial Machinery and Consumer Goods.

Manufacturing in India across all domains and industry sectors is thus expected to grow big, which will require equal support – quality and quantity wise from the Machine Tools and Die and Mould industry. We have already started to witness this growth momentum. The last fiscal quarter already saw industry in India touching a little over 8% productivity and growth rate. With all these sectors expected to experience tremendous boom, the tooling and mould and die industry will thrive on this growth opportunity. It’s their time to Shine.

How are your products/services geared up to be in line with recent trends, such as Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing?

At DesignTech, ever since our inception in 1998, we have been working closely with the Mechanical Engineering industry in India, helping them make a transition from traditional processes of yesterday to adopting the latest technologies to match the global standards of engineering excellence. We have some of the advanced CAE solutions, 3D Printing or Additive Manufacturing Technologies, latest CAD and PLM solutions from global leaders for the industries that would help companies attain their goals of product design and manufacturing excellence through efficient processes and systems that augment productivity, generate greater ROI and enable them achieve higher cost effectiveness. These technologies would help them remain competitive and relevant in the fast changing market space.

DesignTech Systems Ltd. has newly tied up with PTC as their Value Added Reseller to promote and sale their Industrial IoT (Internet of Things), Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) solutions, ThingWorx and Vuforia in India. These latest technologies would definitely help companies gear up for Industry 4.0. Digital Transformation with IoT is a must to compete in the world of Industry 4.0
Industry 4.0 is a revolutionary concept that will transform the way manufacturing has been carried out. IOT or the Internet of Things will be at the crux of it. Industry 4.0 basically is complete digitalization of processes, advanced automation and robotics, self-monitored and guided systems through Artificial intelligence that would manage the day-to-day working of the factories. This is predicted to be the next big Industrial revolution.

The human interface would be minimum as regular processes would be largely governed, managed, and executed through Artificial intelligence. There will also be complete digital integration with suppliers and vendors. The entire communication, management and review of processes and data would be conducted and shared digitally. It will be an ‘All Connected’ Manufacturing platform.

India already has earned a reputation for being an IT hub of the world, but Manufacturing is the next alternative that will bring more foreign companies to India. Our IT competency will certainly help us migrate to IoT backed Manufacturing approach.

We can even contribute to providing Overseas Services and Consultancy for helping companies get their IT infrastructure in place for Smart Manufacturing. Technologies like 3D Printing, Digital Manufacturing and PLM are paving a slow and steady way into the manufacturing industry, but we need to expedite our process to migrate to new and improved way of conducting work. We are still far away from Industry 4.0.

The products offered by DesignTech help companies in conceptualising and building Smart Factories. Smart factories essentially mean the factories which are automated and actually take decisions based on some predetermined events. This needs designing and using Smart Products. Such products are a combination of many technologies like Electrical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation (sensors) embedded systems and software.

The range of 3D modelling and simulation solutions offered by us can help companies design and simulate such systems.

What is your vision for your company (in terms of new product launch, innovation/collaborations)? How do you see your brand growing by 2020?

We have tied up with hyperMILL CAM solutions from Open Mind Technologies, AG. hyperMILL is a state-of-the-art CAM solution that offers 2.5D, 3D, 5-axis milling and turning, as well as machining operations such as high-speed cutting and high performance cutting.

DesignTech has established a firm grounding in India. We now wish to step outside our comfort zone and attempt to establish a strong foothold in South Asian countries as well. With that objective in mind, at DesignTech we have already expanded our presence in Singapore and Malaysia as a Value added Reseller of Stratasys 3D Printers and Altair Engineering for their CAE suite of Solutions. DesignTech is the authorised partner in Singapore and Malaysia for Rosetta Stone which is cloud-based Adaptive Blended Language Learning solutions.

Besides that, DesignTech Engineering Services division has also started their operations and now has a physical presence in USA and Germany. Through our Services division we are working very closely with companies from India and overseas helping them attain their objective of product design and engineering excellence.

DesignTech CAD Academy, an education and training division of DesignTech Systems, signed up with Dassault Systemes as their Authorized Training Partner for CATIA. Besides Dassault Systemes, DesignTech CAD Academy is also Authorized Training Partner of Altair Engineering for their CAE solutions in India.
