Modular O-Rail from Rollon enables infinite combinations

Some follow the rules when it comes to design, but there is one company that tries to get off the “tracks” of tradition to find more innovative solutions. This is how Rollon has expanded its product range for linear movement solutions. The new modular rails are called O-Rail: a solution created to add flexibility, that can open the doors to a potentially unlimited number of design combinations.

The Vimercate-based group enhances its range of solutions with modular self-aligning linear rails that allow operators to set up many types of design configurations, to respond to the most specific needs of individual applications.

A rail with a thousand tricks
Integrated into the Rollon range after the recent acquisition of the Italian company T-Race, O-Rail is a truly unique linear rail with rollers: their modularity permits countless configurations depending on the task required, the available space and the load.

The particular form of this rail, the O-Rail system has three raceways placed at 90° angles with respect to each other. Bearings can slide on each of these, which makes the system adjustable in different directions. The system’s original structure allows the designer to combine it with another O-Rail (or a different product) to create new design configurations and find the perfect one for the client’s application: from a double rail to a portal system, and from a single-rail structure to a telescopic option. This is possible due to the technical features of O-Rail products, such as high resistance to wear, silent operation, the ability to manage heavy loads and significant misalignment, and a good level of resistance to corrosion. When combined with its extreme flexibility, these features make this solution suitable for several types of applications in different sectors.

    Some examples:
Machine tools: O-Rail products make new design options available in the machine tools sector. Large machine doors, which are normally supported by rails located in the parts underneath and above the door, can be supported and moved by two O-Rail products positioned at the base at a distance that produces an arm long enough to manage the movement.

Museums: another example of a field where the O-Rail is useful: rails are used to move cantilever extractions of heavy drawers and shatterproof glass. It is possible to put two O-Rail products together to form a telescopic extraction assembly that can manage heavy loads and control moment, while guaranteeing silent sliding movement.

    Long life and misalignment management
If we look at the technical features in detail, O-Rail linear rails are structured in deep nitrided steel profiles thermally oxidized with an innovative process called Rollon-Nox able to ensure that the material is very hard and that it has a good level of resistance to corrosion.

Silent and reliable, the O-Rail linear rails reach a speed of 9 m/s and an acceleration of 20 m/s, while the double ball bearings that slide along the rails can handle a weight that can reach 4000 Newtons each. Lastly, the self-alignment properties that allow them to compensate for an axial variance of +/- 1 mm and to correct possible parallelism errors up to 5° are absolutely necessary to achieve extreme flexibility.

The O-Rail linear rails are the first of a series of products through which the Vimercate-based company is enhancing its own range, adding value to the acquisitions that it has made in recent years and the constant work in research and development. Other new products will be presented in the next few months.
