The coming of Industry 4.0 has significantly altered the structure and functioning of manufacturing industries. Traditional manufacturing practices, which have been rooted in grand infrastructure and necessary man-machine proximity, are now making way for alternate methods of conducting work – particularly in adopting digitalization in core practices. While the digital switch has been in the works, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the transition, making it an imminent need of the hour. Now, with businesses recovering after a year of uncertainty, the potential in developing a fully functional matrix of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) for Indian manufacturers is tremendous.

    Innovation for IIoT

IIoT has ushered the next step of Industry 4.0. By allowing the integration of complex industrial processes through automation and cloud computing, IIoT is modifying existing systems to integrate men, machines, and the manufacturing process into a structured mesh of interconnected devices – allowing data collection, exchange, and analysis for improved productivity, efficiency, and output.

The benefits of IIoT can today be optimally realized in general manufacturing that is encountering recurring challenges in lack of real-time monitoring, inconsistencies in measurement, and absence of precise predictive analytics. Further, interpretation of data has been a challenge, preventing manufacturing firms from appropriately implementing industry recommendations to optimize performance. Here, IIoT can play a driving role in undoing barriers of insufficient equipment effectiveness and downtime.

Mobil™ Lubricants has traversed many successes and challenges in its 150 years of service to become a recognized leader of lubrication innovation. Now, digitalization of processes is bringing home fresh opportunity – and Mobil is leaving no stone unturned to optimistically ride this new tide of change.

    Excellence in service

While product formulations by Mobil have earned global reputation for their innovation and effectivity, services by Mobil are extending the company’s expertise through dedicated support in maintenance, monitoring and performance review. Mobil’s technical assistance under the Mobil ServSM Lubricant Analysis (MSLA) program combines a number of services that together provide reports, analyses and solutions to guide manufacturing professionals in making the most effective business decisions.

Exxon Mobil Corporation has numerous affiliates, many with names that include ExxonMobil, Exxon, Esso and Mobil. For convenience and simplicity, those terms and references to “corporation”, “company”, “ExxonMobil”, “EM”, and other similar terms are used for convenience and may refer to one or more specific affiliates or affiliate groups.

For instance, Mobil ServSM Real Time is Mobil’s next-generation oil condition monitoring tool that enables instant, remote access to detailed oil diagnostics. It provides real-time data stream on oil health, and alerts users as soon as issues are detected – allowing quick action that translates into significant cost savings. The Mobil Serv Real Time platform hosts a live dashboard that contains updates and analyses, facilitating knowledge transfer without lab or site visits. It deploys new generation technology that measures oil constantly across multiple parameters to provide thorough analyses unlike before. Built on a data computation model, it allows planned servicing to ensure optimal oil use and reduced wastage. Most importantly, it guarantees equipment health by sending alerts on potential damage, causes of such damage and prevention methods.

The latest offering from Mobil – Mobil ServSM IIoT Insights – is proving to be game-changing in integrating automation with manufacturing efficiency. For manufacturers, it is a critical cloud-based solution that turns insights into action, taking businesses towards improved efficiency and overall productivity. This platform is bringing special benefits with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML), automated monitoring and precise analysis that directly benefit machine performance and manufacturing efficiency.

Guided by AI-enabled trend analysis, IIoT Insights connects machines through a wireless network to collect data automatically and provide real-time alerts. The interface converts raw production data into actionable insights while its AI/ML-powered functionality provides customized alerts, ensures optimized energy consumption, measures equipment effectiveness, and enables trend monitoring, among other benefits. With this, site managers can gather an aggregated view of data management that includes monitoring parameters such as daily production details, machine run time, downtime, etc. Additionally, the solution helps top business executives get direct access to high-level metrics like machine overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), energy consumption, and other production details. It also lends insights into drivers of under performance through high-level metrics while also identifying the opportunities for increasing efficiencies.

Exxon Mobil Corporation : Leveraging IIoT in general manufacturing

By collecting raw data, analyzing it, and providing reliable recommendations on a real-time remote basis – IIoT insights has taken the leap into realizing Industry 4.0. For general manufacturers, this is a fresh opportunity towards increasing efficiency, optimizing output, and paving the way for greater profitability. The digital era is here, and Mobil is dedicated to assist manufacturers in upgrading their abilities for an automated tomorrow.
