Q. How would you introduce your company in two minutes?
Grind Master is pioneer and leading manufacturer of Metal finishing, Deburring & Microfinishing machines from India. We are leading Exporters of machine tools from India, with more than 50% of our Production exported to China against German and Japanese competition. Passion, Innovation, trust and expertise have been our core values.
Q. What’s the role you have played in conceptualizing the business line you are in, and in nurturing it?
Grind Master was started in a Garage in 1984 by myself and my husband Mr. Kelkar. Hitherto the polishing operations were done all manually. Therefore there were severe productivity limitations to all these metal finishing and deburring processes. Since we wanted to do something different, we found this opportunity interesting and started developing these machines from scratch. Most of these machines are developed from scratch and it was quite challenging.
Q. What are the success conducive attitudes that helped you in building the organization?
Accepting the new challenges and involving the team to make it successful.
Q. We know you are a charismatic leader. Leaders are born or made?
I think both ways. First, you need to have certain characteristics in yourself so that you can be moulded to become a leader. I believe in leading by example and so a leader has to behave or follow the expectations he has from others.
Q. What have you learned from the past?
Focus is extremely important in the business. You should have the ability to focus on the most important issues even when there are several distractions.
Q. What rejoices you at the workplace?
Completing all the tasks of the day which I had planned before closing the day. Also the successful implementation of any innovation / new idea rejoices me.
Q. Any award or encomium you cherish the most?
I was awarded FIE Foundation National Award in 1992 for the outstanding contribution in the Engineering Field.
Q. What are your comments on the prevailing business environment and how conducive is it to growth of your business?
Prevailing business environment is certainly conducive to the growth of overall business. At the same time, it has opened the doors for global competition. Fortunately, since we had export thrust from the beginning, we have been working with International Companies for very long time and are familiar with their expectations. We have deep understanding and close relations with our Indian customers and with this foundation we have expanded our global markets.  This is certainly helping us in facing the global competition.
Q. What are the challenges ahead for you?
The various Manufacturing Technologies are continuously changing. We are in a kind of VUCA World and to survive in this, we have to continue being innovative, keep us updated on latest happenings worldwide and bring out the new products and technologies with speed.
